Celebrating the 900th Anniversary of Its Construction
The Golden Hall of Chūson-ji Temple
This special exhibition marks nine centuries since the Golden Hall of Chūson-ji Temple was built in 1124. The exhibition will feature the hall’s glittering adornments and National Treasures, including the eleven Buddhist statues enshrined on its central altar and a celebrated temple ornament with legendary birdlike creatures (kalaviṅka). Additionally, in a groundbreaking first, a full-scale digital recreation of the Golden Hall in ultra-high-definition 8K will also be on view in the gallery, immersing visitors in the luminescent golden atmosphere that has inspired prayer and devotion for 900 years. The exhibition is also a unique chance to discover the outstanding cultural masterpieces of the historic town of Hiraizumi, which was recognized as an official UNESCO site in 2011.
